The mornings are getting lighter, the start to the day slightly easier and with spring somewhat sprung, we welcome you to our first edition of Investment Edge for 2024.
I joined Redington in November last year, so this is my first time in the editor’s seat. Investment Edge is our quarterly newsletter with the aim to bring you interesting content and insights from our experts for you to enjoy over a coffee break. Enjoy the read!
International Women’s Day (IWD) fell on the 8th March – presenting another opportunity for us to celebrate the women at all levels of Redington who make an enormous contribution to the business each day. As ever, we remain committed to progressing diversity, equity and inclusion conversations, and look forward to sharing the output of our second IWD-themed roundtable in due course.
First, with today’s backdrop, alternatives – and real assets in particular – are an attractive and important opportunity for investors of all sizes. Sarah Miller, Senior Vice President in our Manager Research team takes a closer look at ‘liquid real assets’ and the opportunities for retail investors looking to gain exposure to them as part of a robust and diversified portfolio.
Do you trust your Discretionary Fund Manager (DFM)? Tara Gillespie, Head of Global Assets, discusses the importance of listening to build strong relationships. She explains how this is critical in the process of asking the right questions of your selected DFM to truly understand how they are going to deliver for your clients. We believe there are 10 factors that need attention when selecting and reviewing DFMs. Not all are exciting, but they are important.
Next up, Caroline Mills, our Equity Research Analyst, looks into the nuances of passive equity fund selection as the asset class continues to grow rapidly. Investors have a tendency to focus on headline fees. Whilst this remains an important consideration, she believes it’s much more crucial to look ‘under the bonnet’ when selecting a passive manager to ensure a best-in-class strategy is chosen. Read on to discover the key considerations for passive fund selectors.
We close with our Water Cooler Chats – an introduction to some of the people who make Redington great! In this edition we speak to Sam Shaw, our Chief Product Officer, who shares what he has been focusing on recently, including how he has been thinking about AI – alongside trying to find time to pursue his musical interests!
I hope you enjoy the read, and as ever we welcome any thoughts or feedback you may have on any of the content. Look forward to speaking soon!
